FROM CALCUTTA WITH LOVE. The World War II Letters of Richard and Reva Beard, Edited by Elaine Pinkerton

This is the saga of the China, Burma, India (CBI) theatre of the war as witnessed daily by Richard Beard, a US Army psychologist assigned to the 142nd General Hospital in Calcutta. He dealt directly with the Allied soldiers fighting in humid jungles, where disease was more feared than the Japanese; and with airmen who flew "The Hump" over the Himalayas, braving monsoon rains, deadly wind shifts, and mountain peaks that suddenly poked out from the clouds. Beard was a pillar to these men; but his wife, Reva, was a pillar to Beard. They daily exchanged letters, pouring out their feelings and longings. This book is also a love story that offers unique insights into the war. A truly unusual and memorable history book of World War II!
