AMERICA, THE WAR YEARS 1941-1945. A yearly chronicle of world and national events as captured in the original newsreel footage during American society's transformation in a global war. CLEARANCE SALE VHS Video 4-pack
In the five years between 1941 and 1945, the United States underwent a sweeping transformation. Thrust dramatically and unexpectedly into a global war by the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, American society was forced to cope with the wrenching changes imposed by mobilizing 15 million men into the armed services. Women entered the work force in unprecedented numbers to fill millions of defense manufacturing jobs. At the same time new factory jobs in the booming cities of the West and industrial North lured millions of rural families off their farms. While GI Joe came to represent the new global flexing of American military power, Rosy the Riveter became a symbol for the new role of women in society and the dramatic social changes sweeping America. Yet amidst the horror of global war and the social upheaval of American society at home, Americans, men and women alike, found time to dance to the swing music of the era and to cheer the New York Yankees to yet another world series win. This set contains a yearly chronicle of world and national events from 1941 through 1945 as captured in the original newsreel footage of the period. Total time: 4 hours 15 minutes. VHS Video 4-pack.
