American casualties had reached 1,214 KIA, 5,704 WIA, 329 MIA. Japanese KIA +/- 11,000. The garrison continued active patrol action against Japanese holdouts until the end of the war.
Summary: Originally published in the 1950s by the USMC Historical Branch, this is an official USMC campaign history. While it records primarily the 3rd Marine Division and the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, it also includes details on the 77th Infantry Division.
