In 1861, the 2nd Kentuck Cavalry, CSA, otherwise known as "Morgan's Raiders," entered into the Civil War and began to attain fame. They became the farthest ranging unit in the war -- raiding, skirmishing, and fighting full scale in ten states. Mounted on the finest horses in the country, Morgan's men were heroes in the South and outlaws in the North. Captured or imprisoned, they usually escaped, promptly returning to raiding, recruiting, and "borrowing" horses and supplies. By 1865, Morgan's Raiders were a shattered regiment of foot soldiers, escorting Jefferson Davis on his flight southward from Richmond. THe book is based on diaries and memoirs of the men, and on newspapers and official records. Hard cover. 351 pages, footnotes.
